Sunderland 9/2 v Liverpool 4/7 (12/5 draw)
Robbed! After the most ridiculous penalty decision ever to ‘grace’ the Premiership, Liverpool need to get back to winning ways at the Stadium of Light. Chelsea have picked up 7pts from 3 games and Liverpool need to win this one to match them. Sunderland are doing okay so far, they had a great victory over Spurs on the opening day followed by a decent performance at Birmngham followed by a poor performance at Wigan. They are back at home here and should be up for this one. The last 3 meetings of these two at the Stadium of Light resulted in 2 wins for Liverpool and 1 win for Sunderland. Liverpool will be tough opposition here and an away win is on the cards at 4/7. A repeat score from the last time these met of 2-0 is 13/2.
Arsenal 4/7 v Man City 9/2 (12/5 draw)
Man City somehow managed to nick a win at Eastlands last week against derby rivals Man Utd. Utd had the majority of possession but could not make it count unlike City, who scored via Geovani from outside the box. Playing Arsenal at the Emirates is a different matter, they play fast and possession football with the players to finish of the move. Something they lacked last season. The emergence of Micah Richards as a fine young centre back must be good news for City and England after some superb performance for both teams. Even so Arsenal will probably win this and end City’s 100% win record. If Arsenal do record the win it won’t be by much, making a draw on the handicap (Arsenal -1) at 5/2 a cracking bet.
Aston Villa 5/6 v Fulham 11/4 (9/4 draw)
After a fine display in midweek against Liechtenstein, David Healy will be brimming with confidence and is looking dangerous for Fulham. Fulham were mighty unlucky not to get the draw out of the game against ‘Boro after being denied a certain goal. They have been playing well of late and will give Villa a game. Villa managed to get a draw from a rejuvenated Newcastle at St James’ Park after being beaten by Liverpool at Villa Park. I don’t see them winning this one either, the draw specialists of last season may have to settle for another draw here at 9/4. Healy 1st goal is 7/1, which is great value if backing each way.
Bolton 11/10 v Reading 2/1 (9/4 draw)
What a poor start for Bolton, Sammy Lee continues to come out after losing games saying he’s “confident” they can fix what’s gone wrong, but then goes on to say “we’re not too sure what the problem is”. Mark my words, Sammy Lee won’t last the season unless there is a DRASTIC turnaround in fortunes. Reading have a few players out including Leroy Lita who was fantastic for them last year. They managed to get 3 points from the game at home to Everton but I fancy Bolton to register their first points of the season here. Surely they can’t go 4 games without getting at least a point? In fact I feel they will take all 3 points with Anelka who may be heading for the exit soon priced at 9/2 to score first. He seems the be only player for Bolton who will get on the score sheet.
Chelsea 1/4 v Portsmouth 15/2 (4/1 draw)
Even though Chelsea have got 7 from 9 available points so far, they have not looked convincing. They have now conceded the first goal in their last 4 games (including the Community Shield) and were dominated last week by Liverpool. Portsmouth have had a good start, they appear to have signed some real gems in Muntari and eventually Dave Nugent. Benjani has been weighing in with a fair few goals this season too. This is a risky one but I fancy Portsmouth to hold Chelsea to a draw at a big price of 4/1! Should Chelsea manage a win then a draw on the handicap (Chelsea -1) at 13/5 could be a decent bet. Maybe covering them both is on order?
Derby 11/8 v Birmingham 13/8 (11/5 draw)
Both teams have only managed to pick up 1 point so far from their 3 games. So not the best of starts but given their fixtures they haven’t done bad. Derby were absolutely outclassed against Spurs last week eventually going down 4-0. They will need to improve on that performance if they are to get anything from this game, they do have home advantage which is a major positive. Their last two meetings between the two sides have resulted in a 1-0 win for Birmingham. Something Billy Davies's will desperately wasn’t to change. The draw here stands out most at 11/5 with neither side looking like they are comfortable in the Premiership.
West Ham 4/5 v Wigan 3/1 (9/4 draw)
The Hammers have had a decent start; they lost at home to a good Man City then won away to Birmingham. Dean Ashton is finally back and will be eager to start against Wigan, he is now the main striker at the club and will be relied upon to score plenty of goals. I expected Wigan to be in and around the bottom of the table from start to finish this season, but they’re currently sitting in 3rd place with 6 points from their opening 3 games. After a comprehensive win over Sunderland last week, Wigan will be in confident mood. To tight to call this one so I’ll plump for the draw at 9/4. Wigan +1 on the handicap may be a good bet at 10/11.
Everton 1/1 v Blackburn 9/4 (9/4 draw)
The late kick off on Saturday sees two battling, tough teams clash at Goodison. Everton look to have a good chance of making the top 5 this season, especially if they manage to get hold of Yakubu from Middlesbrough. Johnson and Yakubu upfront would be a formidable partnership with a mixture of power and pace that would have any defence on the ropes. For this game however I am going to go for the value in Blackburn at 9/4. They do not let games go without a fight and now have Santa Cruz who has already shown what he can do. Lump on Blackburn +1 on the handicap at 8/11!! |
